NeuroDevelopment Group (NEDE)

The main goal of the NeuroDevelopment group (NeDe) is to investigate the key mechanisms involved in the control of the maturation and differentiation of the neural stem cells (NCS) in order the get further insight in the knowledge of the mechanisms underlying two basic aspects of the physiopathology of the Nervous System: neuroregeneration and transformation of neural cells.

In the first case, our studies are focused on the role of hormones and growth factors in the regulation of the proliferation and differentiation of NSC with the final goal of finding therapies that could be used do decrease brain damage in different pathological conditions (brain trauma, cerebrovascular diseases, neurodegenerative diseases) or to promote brain repair (regeneration) once damage has been produced.

Our second goal is to investigate the role of NSC in the oncogenic process. Our studies are focused on the ability of NSC to form tumors and in the use of those tumors as a target for antioncogenic therapies.
