Galician Oncological Research Group
The group of Genetics of Human Disease leaded by Dr. Fernando Domínguez is located at the Center for Research in Molecular Medicine and Chronic Diseases (CiMUS-University of Santiago de Compostela). The group is also integrated within the Oncology Program of the Instituto de Investigaciones Sanitarias de Santiago de Compostela (IDIS). The main guideline of research is the search for new approaches to the treatment of human disease. As an example, in the past years the group has participated in the development of new systems for antitumoral drugs release based on the use of functionalized nanocapsules, or the improvement of drug delivery by the use of gold nanoparticles. Currently, and in collaboration with other groups from both inside and outside Galicia, the group is characterizing the biological properties of metallic nanomaterials, such as silver and copper Atomic Quatum Clusters (AQCs), as well as Rubidium and Rutheniun derivatives. The ultimate goal is the development of new tools that can be applied to the clinical practice.
